Jury finds Sarasota man guilty of running 80 million dollar "OASIS" FOREX Ponzi scheme

May 5, 2022 — United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces that following a 13-day trial, a federal jury has found Michael J. DaCorta (Sarasota) guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and mail fraud, money laundering, and filing a false income tax return. DaCorta faces a combined maximum penalty of 33 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set. DaCorta had been charged in a superseding indictment in February 2021.

Attorney sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for tax fraud offenses

July 28, 2022 — Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Deron D. Freeman, of Glastonbury, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden in Bridgeport to 24 months of imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release, for tax fraud offenses.

Deferral of employment tax deposits and payments through December 31, 2020

The Coronavirus, Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) allows employers to defer the deposit and payment of the employer's share of Social Security taxes and self-employed individuals to defer payment of certain self-employment taxes. These FAQs address specific issues related to the deferral of deposit and payment of these employment taxes, as well as coordination with the credits for paid leave under sections 7001 and 7003 of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and the employee retention credit under section 2301 of the CARES Act. These FAQs will continue to be updated to address additional questions as appropriate.
