VI-2022-01, August 3, 2022 — Victims of a water shortage and health impact from unprecedented sargassum seagrass influx on the island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands beginning July 15, 2022, now have until November 15, 2022, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments, the Internal Revenue Service announced today.

Durham, N.C. man admits to operating an unlicensed cryptocurrency business and related tax charges

July 12, 2022 — Jayton Gill, of Durham, N.C., appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge David C. Keesler today and pleaded guilty to operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and willful failure to file a tax return, announced Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

March 28, 2024 — A Waxahachie tax preparer was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison and ordered to pay more than $6.7 million in restitution to the IRS, announced U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Leigha Simonton.

NC man is sentenced to prison for operating an unlicensed cryptocurrency business and related tax charges

July 18, 2023 — Jayton Gill of Durham, N.C., was sentenced to 21 months in prison followed by a year of supervised release today for operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and willful failure to file a tax return, announced Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Gill was also ordered to pay a forfeiture money judgement in the amount of $475,000.

Former operations manager sentenced to five years in federal prison for stealing over $2.5 million from employer, covering up the scheme with tax fraud

March 17, 2025 — Marcie Jean Doty of Evansville, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to wire fraud, failure to file tax returns, and filing false tax returns. Doty has also been ordered to pay $2,517,343.05 in restitution.
