June 18, 2024 — The Justice Department today announced a 10-count superseding indictment charging Los Angeles-based associates of Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel with conspiring with money-laundering groups linked to Chinese underground banking to launder drug trafficking proceeds. During the conspiracy, more than $50 million in drug proceeds flowed between the Sinaloa Cartel associates and Chinese underground money exchanges.

Largest international operation against darknet trafficking of fentanyl and opioids results in record arrests and seizures
May 2, 2023 — Today, the Department of Justice, and its Joint Criminal Opioid and Darknet Enforcement (JCODE) team and international partners, announced the results of Operation SpecTor, which included 288 arrests – the most ever for any JCODE operation and nearly double that of the prior operation. Law enforcement also conducted more seizures than any prior operation, including 117 firearms, 850 kilograms of drugs that include 64 kilograms of fentanyl or fentanyl-laced narcotics, and $53.4 million in cash and virtual currencies.

Former U.S. Senator Robert Menendez sentenced to 11 years in prison for bribery, foreign agent, and obstruction offenses
Jan. 29, 2025 — Danielle R. Sassoon, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that former U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, Wael Hana, a/k/a “Will Hana,” and Fred Daibes, were sentenced to 11 years, more than eight years, and seven years in prison, respectively, for bribery, foreign agent, and obstruction of justice offenses. Menendez, Hana, and Daibes were convicted on July 16, 2024, following a nine-week jury trial before U.S. District Judge Sidney H. Stein, who imposed today’s sentences.
